How to Keep Your Transmission Fluid Cool While Slowly Climbing UpHIll

Keeping transmission fluid temperature low while offroading!

Have you ever been offroading up a steep grade for a while only to get the “HOT OIL” warning light on your dash? That warning light is actually for the transmission fluid temperature and keeping it hot will degrade the fluid and lower its lifespan and could potentially hurt your transmission. We have experienced this warning a few times while offroading up a steep slow mountain and have found an easy solution.

The best tip while offroading

The easiest way to keep your transmission fluid run cooler while climbing a steep grade off road is to drive the vehicle in 4 wheel drive! 4Hi has been an easy and effective way we have kept our transmission fluid running cooler and preventing that pesky warning light! 4Lo has such great slow speed gearing, but if you are traveling faster than 20 miles an hour, 4Hi is perfect.

Safety

Another reason to place your off road vehicle in 4Hi when you set off road is that you never know what difficult terrain you will encounter. Placing the vehicle in 4Hi gives you the best opportunity for success when the trail gets unexpectedly difficult. For safety reasons, this is the best way to ensure success on your off road journey!
