Whether you call it Wheeling, Offroading, Overlanding, Mudding, or Crawling. There’s something for everyone! Here’s five things everyone must know about offroading:
1. There’s something for everyone
You don’t have to own a custom rig that can go straight up walls or trek through the roughest rock gardens. Those setups are incredible, take a lot of time, effort, and money! The drivers push them hard and break them often. If that’s you, we love the engineering brilliance, teamwork, and passion! However, there’s also fast desert driving, overlanding, and mudding. Build your rig how you would like it to perform on the trails. For us, it is a fantastic outlet to get out and enjoy mostly “easy trails” where the kids can learn safe vehicle operation and bond over shared memories. Overlanding is a whole other level! They organize and equip their vehicles for any situation, create comfort where possible, and get out for a weekend or for weeks at a time. From roof top tents, to trail campers, water supply, and grills. It is all setup to be ready for anything. And survive the wilderness with ease. Going further, moving more remote. There’s so much to explore!
2. It’s Addicting!
Offroading is addicting. Buyer beware! (Enter smiley face here) 🤪 There’s just something about the fresh air of the mountains, the late night starry skies of the desert, or the exhilaration of the speed down dirt roads. It will have you hooked!
3. Bring ALL the Tools
If it can go wrong it probably will. Murphy has us planning for a full recovery every time. Also, never wheel alone. There are great preparation tutorials on Youtube for any misadventure. Some of the recommended tools include, a GMRS radio, tow strap, winch, high jack, and traction tracks. There’s too many tools to list!
4. Wheel in STYLE

5. You DON’T Need the Newest and Best
You don’t need the newest, most expensive rig on the trails. Start small and learn from people who are doing it well. An older 4WD is the perfect beginner truck. They can handle a scratch without tears, and are often easily repairable. The local off-roading groups are great places to meet helpful people who love off-roading and take the time to assist wherever they can. Join a Facebook group or 35 and immerse yourself in this addicting adventure called “Wheeling”!
